Nikon announces the introduction of the first model in Nikon's new Coolpix AW digital cameras suited not only to regular shooting situations, but designed to make the Nikon AW100 fun to use in a variety of outdoor situations. The Nikon AW 100 is Nikon's first compact digital camera with waterproof, shock-proof and cold-resistant specifications, is a high-performance camera with an effective pixel count of 16.0-million pixels. The Nikon AW100 offers not only basic camera features such as a backside illumination CMOS image sensor and functions for capturing still images with superior image quality and recording full-HD movies with the same superior picture quality, but is also equipped with a number of new features.
The Nikon Coolpix AW100 is the first in Nikon’s new AW series of waterproof, shock-proof, cold-resistant compact digital cameras. It comes equipped with outdoor shooting features that include GPS support, an electronic compass and map display, and action control.

Built to capture the moment most anywhere you go
Built to withstand depths of up to 10 m, to resist shock when dropped from heights of up to 1.5 m, and to withstand temperatures down to -10°C, the COOLPIX AW100 is the slim compact camera made to go more of the places you like to explore. It also features Action control, which enables one-hand gloved control over assigned functions, whether wearing ski gloves or skin-diving gloves. GPS geotagging and World Map display
A high-performance GPS chip records location data for each shot, and the system's updatable A-GPS (Assisted GPS) file helps minimize the time required to provide position information. The system can also be set to log your movements, even when not taking pictures. Pictures and routes can then be viewed using the new Built-in world map display. These functions combine to open up a whole new dimension in photographic pleasure, from tracking your progress on a golf course, to marking the location of that great catch or accomplishment.
