Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH2 14-140mm 24P Cinema Mode with 24 Mbps

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH2 digital slr camera combines the easy-to-see free-angle Intelligent LCD with the newly developed Multi Aspect Wide Screen LVF (Live View Finder). Panasonic GH2 digital SLR camera includes 22 different shooting modes for creative shooting options.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH2 features new additions to the iA mode including Intelligent D-range Control and Intelligent Resolution.

Featuring full High Definition (HD) video recording and compatibility with the world’s first interchangeable 3D lens. The Panasonic DMCGH2 elevates the company’s revolutionary LUMIX G Series, its line of Digital Single Lens Micro (DSLM) cameras that deliver professional-level features and performance in a compact and easy-to-use camera body.

Thanks to the high performance, this camera makes the photographic experience even more comfortable and fun. The camera features the world’s fastest level Light Speed AF of approx. 0.1 second which is achieved by reducing the detection time for focusing by doubling the drive speed from 60 fps to 120 fps. Not only the accuracy but also the speed excels that of the high-end DSLRs with phase difference AF with the advanced contrast AF system in GH2. Combined with the Touch AF control, setting and focusing at the subject is incredibly easy and quick, never missing the spur-of-the-moment shot.

The newly developed 16.05-megapixel multi-aspect Live MOS Sensor adopts the high speed digital Maicovicon. In addition to the high speed, which is an advantage of the CMOS sensor, adds its original pixel mix technology. A dedicated process exclusively for Maicovicon of this camera is newly developed by applying the top-class high performance transistor and its interconnection process needed for the high speed operation of digital circuit to make low-noise photodiode and transistor with reduced wiring to achieve both high resolution and high aperture-ratio. The result is both high resolution and excellent S/N with more than 3dB improvement of noise and 200% higher sensitivity in GH2. Plus, it helps to realize the high speed burst shooting at 5 fps in 16.05-megapixel full resolution using a mechanical shutter and max.40 fps using an electronic shutter.

The Panasonic DMCGH2 combines features for both the videographer and photographer, making it a true hybrid digital camera. A dedicated button on the top of the camera lets users instantly record videos while shooting photos without changing any extra settings. Building on the momentum of its successful predecessor, the GH1 the Panasonic DMCGH2 can now record full HD 1920 x 1080 videos in smooth 60i, doubling the sensor output from 25p/24p to 50p/60p2. This Lumix camera also supports 1080/24p native mode at 24 Mbps, the highest in AVCHD format, for richly expressive video.

The main developments over the previous model include the new sensor; while it's still the Four Thirds size, its resolution has been upped to 16.1 megapixels, and offers a higher frame rate (60p) in AVCHD. Like the latest G-series camera from Panasonic, the G2, this camera also features a 3-inch free-angle touchscreen. The overall form factor has changed very little from the GH1.

The Panasonic DMC-GH2 compact camera body has the same width as the GH1 but is overall 1.5x larger and a few grams heavier. To my mind, the camera is still enjoyably compact and, even the with 10x lens attached, little larger than some upper level, fixed lens compacts …but this ‘un is just like a DSLR but with a turret LCD finder instead of an optical pentaprism viewfinder.

Panasonic's Lumix DMC-GH2 is a hybrid camera designed to capture high quality stills and HD video. Announced in September 2010, it's the successor to the Lumix GH1, and like that model is based on the Micro Four Thirds standard. The earlier GH1 raised the bar for video capture in a hybrid camera which the new GH2 enhances further, while also enjoying higher resolution stills, quicker AF, faster continuous shooting and a touch-screen display.

The headline specification is a sensor increase from 12.1 to 16 Megapixels, making the GH2 the highest resolution camera to use the Micro Four Thirds standard. Like its predecessor, the sensor actually sports a higher resolution - in this case 18 Megapixels - with spare pixels around the edges used to maintain the angle of view when shooting in different aspect ratios. The sensor also enjoys quicker data readout, allowing faster continuous shooting.

Like the GH1 before it, the GH2 can capture Full HD video with continuous autofocus and full manual control over exposures. The major difference is the GH2's sensor outputs a higher frame rate when recording Full HD video, which not only allows smoother capture, but quicker continuous autofocus. The GH2 also now offers a 1080 / 24p option for movie makers, along with variable speed modes which can slow the output to 80% or speed it up to 300%. You can additionally take still photos while filming (albeit at 2 Megapixels) without interruption. Pros will also be delighted to discover audio level meters and that the HDMI output delivers a clean 1080i feed even when the camera's recording video.

Panasonic Lumix GH2 is equipped with a fully articulated screen which can twist and flip to any direction, including facing forward for crafty self-portraits or back on itself for protection. The screen is hinged at the side, which allows for easy adjustments and viewing even when mounted on a tripod, unlike the Sony Alpha A33's flip-out screen which is hinged at the bottom and as a consequence sometimes finds itself in an awkward position.
